"Academy of Human Rights Defenders "JurFem"
– is the first full-fledged gender and legal training program for lawyers in Ukraine!
The Academy aims to bring together lawyers from all over Ukraine who will be able to provide quality gender-sensitive legal aid to survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), including conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV), and, most importantly, to develop positive judicial and law enforcement practice in these cases.
Russia’s war against Ukraine has only made it more important to support women human rights defenders and strengthen their competencies, acquire new skills and knowledge, particularly related to war crimes committed by the occupiers, including sexual violence. The Academy is a platform that will bring together gender-sensitive lawyers and human rights defenders who are able and willing to protect vulnerable populations, who demonstrate equality and mutual respect in their professional lives, and whose legal practice will become the foundation for building trusting relationships with society. Survivors need high-quality gender-sensitive legal aid against violence and discrimination. The Academy is a space where lawyers can acquire the skills to provide such assistance.
The 7-module training will not only allow you to skillfully use national and international mechanisms of protection against discrimination and GBV, but will also unite you with other human rights defenders in one value orientation. Interactive activities, case studies, and simulations are waiting for you, as we aim to make the acquired knowledge as effective as possible in practice!
